Prayer needs
Pray for the university students who seek meaning in life. Pray that their openness to hearing the gospel will lead them to become followers of Christ.
Prosperity and materialism have gripped the hearts of the people, with money becoming the most important factor in their lives. Pray against this spirit of greed.
Sexual lust and prostitution were rampant in pre-Revolution Shanghai. These influences are again seeking to undermine the moral fabric of Chinese society. Pray that this spirit of decadence is broken over the city once and for all.
Prayer starter
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:9-10
Lord, thank you for Shanghai. We pray against consumerism, in the world and in the church. Where access to many things and being a global city can develop certain attitudes, we pray for a total kingdom transformation. Empower your church in Shanghai to store up heavenly treasure that cannot be destroyed or taken away. Thank you that you are calling Shanghai to be a people not of this world but of your spirit. Take away first teachings of earthly wealth and allow true biblical teaching to arise in this hour. Teaching of laying everything down, forsaking all that is of this world, and running after you.
